WHAT IS P.R.E.P?
P.R.E.P is a transition program that aims to give pre-prep aged children a taste of school life and is conducted by Prep teachers. It will:
- Assist children in making a successful adjustment to the school and classroom environments
- Offer an opportunity to participate in classroom activities
- Create familiarity with teachers and school routines
- Allow children to practise skills necessary for school
- Encourage new friendships and develop a support system
- Provide information and support for parents
Plus it is FREE!
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
All children who are eligible to commence primary school next year are invited to participate. We encourage kindergarten, day care and family day care groups to enrol in the program.

2nd Transition Day Friday 17 October 9 - 10.30am
| 'Stay and Play' Session Parents invivted to an information session The information session will be held in the Drama Room and will be followed by morning tea.
| Topics covered at the information session:
- The parent/school relationship and the importance of strong communication.
- Uniform suppliers and uniform expectations.
- History/traditions of the school and links to Sport Houses.
- Religious education and religious life of the school.
- Year 6 school leaders will share their educational journey.
- Specialist lessons and extra-curricular activities offered at our school.
- Separation and anxiety

Parent Information Evening Thursday 20 November 5 - 6pm
| This meeting is compulsory for all parents and caregivers to attend as the Prep teachers for 2026 will present specific information about the school year. Please try to find care for your children for this meeting. It will be held in the Drama Room and light refreshments will be provided. Topics covered will be:
- Tips about what you can be doing at home to prepare your child for school.
- The importance of reading with your child every day and tips for reading with your child.
- Guidance Counsellor, Miss Rebecca Ferlazzo, will present information on cognitive development - how to boost working memory, procesing speed, verbal comprehension etc through play.
- Booklists and school bags.

3rd Transition Day Monday 1 December 9 - 12pm
| 'Move Up Day' and 'Drop & Go' Session On this day the whole school moves up to the next year level for the morning.
| There is no Parent Information session on this day. We ask that parents and carers drop their children, say goodbye and leave the school grounds so they are well prepared for the first day of school next year. The students will learn who their teacher for 2026 will be on this day. They will also know which classroom they will be in. Students are welcome to wear a St Mary's School shirt (if they have one). We will have some second-hand shirts to give on this day at no cost to anyone interest. Students need to pack fruit break, morning tea, water bottle and hat.

OUTLINE OF THE TRANSITION SESSIONS:
Time: See table above for specific times. Please arrive at 8.30am for a 9am start.
What to bring: Please bring a small backpack or bag containing a hat, water bottle and a piece of fruit or vegetables for fruit break.
What to wear: Wear comfortable play clothes and joggers and don't forget to bring a hat.
Where to meet: Meet in the undercover area outside our Library. Parents are requested to sign-in their child. During the first session, the students will have their photo taken. Each child will be provided with a name tag which should be returned to one of the St Mary's staff members at the end of the session. Parents/caregivers will also be asked to write their own name on a sticker for identification.
