The school’s recommendation is that homework is provided. However, teachers are at liberty to design homework tasks that reflect the needs of the children in their classes. Teachers outline their homework procedures at the parent ‘Open Classroom’ information night, held at the beginning of each year. At other times parents should consult their child’s teacher in order to familiarise themselves with the procedure in each class. Parents are expected to support teachers in their supervision of homework.
Library and Reading
Reading is an essential activity for the promotion of positive learning, and it is expected that every child will read for a short time every night. Students have an allocated weekly session in the school Library where they can borrow from a range of age-appropriate books.
We also have a Parent Library, where parents are invited to borrow books on a range of genres, from parenting, education, fiction and non-fiction texts.
The Library is open to students each lunch break where students can access a range of quiet activities including:
- Playing chess
- Lego building
- Colouring-in
- Puppets
- Borrowing books to read
Our Year 6 leaders help with the smooth running of lunch time library sessions, interacting with and guiding the younger students of our school.
