Curriculum
Children in all year levels participate in lessons exploring four out of the five Arts strands, which encompasses Dance, Drama, Visual Arts and Media Arts. Our specialist Arts teacher works with each class weekly. Each term has a different focus strand of the Arts Syllabus so that all year levels have opportunities to explore and achieve in the Arts throughout the year.
Arts Council and similar performances visit our school at various times throughout
the year.
Instrumental Music Program
At St Mary’s, we believe in nurturing a love of music from an early age. Starting in Year 1, students can join our Instrumental Music Program, where they explore and develop their musical talents in the fifth Arts strand, Music.
Our experienced music teachers offer a 30 minute group lesson during class time with a wide range of instruments for students to choose from, tailored to their year level. Options include:
- Piano
- Strings - violin, cello
- Ukelele/guitar
- Bass guitar
- Brass
- Woodwind
- Percussion
Band and Ensemble Programs
Children in instrumental music classes are invited to participate in the St Mary’s Combined Instrumental Ensemble when they have reached a sufficient standard.
The instrumental music program allows children to be exposed to a variety of band instruments as well as the opportunity to play these to performance standard.
St Mary’s also runs a lunch time ukulele club (Years 3 - 6) and rock band (by audition) which are open to all students.
Choir
St Mary’s runs a Junior (P-3) and Senior (4-6) Choir program where students regularly perform at school events, Eisteddfods and concerts.
Eisteddfod
St Mary’s
students perform in our local eisteddfod each year both individually and with
school groups in singing, music, dance and verse.
These extra-curricular activities attract extra costs which can be found in the section on school fees. Additional information about the instrumental music program is available from the school office.
